Obituary for Alvin Lee Henry

Alvin Lee Henry, 91, Ridgeley, W. Va., died Jan. 3, 2018 in Cumberland Health Center after contracting pneumonia.

Born Sept. 16, 1926 in Ridgeley to Florence Leona (Decker) and Holdridge Leslie Henry, he was the youngest of three children. Before he graduated from Ridgeley High School in 1944, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served until 1947.

He married his high-school sweetheart, Nellie Louise Shannon on Feb. 2, 1947 and, in 1949 the coupled welcomed a daughter.

He was retired from the Kelly-Springfield Tire Company.

Mr. Henry belonged to Gold Star Post #6452, V.F.W.

Alvin was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend who made the world a better place.

He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Nellie of the home; daughter, Donna Osborn, Springfield, Mo.; three grandchildren Jeffrey Osborn, Cabot, Ark., Will Osborn, Springfield, Mo., and Elizabeth Lewis and husband Rodney, Nixa, Mo; four great-grandchildren, Gabrielle, Jackson, and Emma Osborn, Cabot, Ar. and Finley Lewis, Nixa, Mo.; a special niece, Twila Kenney, Fort Ashby, a special nephew, Dale Ault, Ridgeley, and numerous other nieces and nephews.

A brother, Leroy, and sister Evelyn Ault preceded him in death.

Visitation at Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., Cumberland, on Saturday from 10 AM until 11:30 AM. The service with follow at 11:30 AM, with Rev. Richard Jewell, officiating.

Interment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park, where military honors will be accorded by Ft. Cumberland Post #13 Honor Guard.
