Obituary for Beverley Gene Long

Beverley Gene Long went home to be with the Lord early Monday morning on April 2, 2018 at Chamberlain Graceful Living, assisted living home, with her daughters, Leslie and Wendi, by her side.

Born February 22, 1934 in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Leslie and Alice (Myers) Shirley.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Glenn E. Long, a grandson, Corey Broadwater, and a brother, Jimmy Shirley.

Beverley graduated from Fort Ashby High School. She was the secretary/bookkeeper of her husband, Glenn’s, home construction business.

She previously attended Mineral Baptist church and was a member of Berean Independent Baptist Church for 23 years until she was no longer able to attend services due to her health issues. She was also a member of the Reeses Mill CEO’s for many years.

Throughout her life she enjoyed homemaking, gardening, canning, cooking, baking, and decorating her home. She especially enjoyed the holidays and making them special for her children and grandchildren!

Survivors include her four children, Glenda Broadwater and husband, Don, Winchester, VA, Kenneth Long and wife Stephanie, Chestertown, MD, Leslie Woolard and husband Timothy, Keyser, and Wendi Browning and husband, Shane, Keyser; five grandchildren, Candi Toma and husband Michael, Ashley Karge and husband Richard, II, Colby Long, Blake Browning and wife Jackie, and Austin Browning; two great grandchildren, Breanna Karge and Richard Karge, III; one sister, Rose Shank; two brothers, Vernon Shirley and Donald Shirley; and many nieces and nephews.

Beverley’s grandchildren and great grandchildren brought her much joy! She will be greatly missed by her family and all that knew her.

A private funeral service will be at Upchurch Funeral Home, Fort Ashby, with Pastor Kris Lengel officiating.

Pallbearers will be the following: Timothy Woolard, Shane Browning, Blake Browning, Austin Browning, Richard Karge, II, and Chris Hanlin.

We would like to thank all of Beverley’s caregivers, including the ones she had while still living at her home, and Robin Chamberlain, and all of her caregivers at Chamberlain Graceful Living for all of the loving care they gave her!
