Obituary for Charles O. Hiett, Jr.

Charles O. Hiett, Jr., of Short Gap, went to be with the Lord after a 1-1/2 year battle with cancer on Saturday, November 25, 2017.

Born January 19, 1947 in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Charles O. Hiett, Sr. and Nora P. (Browning) Hiett.

He was also preceded in death by a niece, Susan Kirk, and a nephew, Rob Kirk.

He was a 1965 graduate of Fort Ashby High School.

Charles was a U.S. Marine veteran, where he served and was wounded in Viet Nam.

He worked for Fairmont Foods in Cumberland for five years. He then worked for RC Marker Co. (Wise Potato Chips), retiring after 25 years of service.

Charles was an avid hunter. He especially liked rabbit hunting with his beagles and deer hunting with family and friends. He also loved to travel around the country.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Deborah (Adams) Hiett; two sons, Troy Hiett and wife Shannon, and Jason Hiett and wife Christina; four grandsons, Jacob, Cole, Noah, and Damon; a sister, Darlene Kirk and husband Bob; nephew, Jeff Kirk and wife Tracy, and their two sons, JT and James. His family also includes a sister-in-law, Barb Dodge and husband George; two brothers-in-law, Rob Adams and wife Cheryl, and Jeff Adams and wife Linda; and, numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, Inc., Route 28, Fort Ashby, on Monday from 4-7 PM.

The funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 11 AM in the funeral home, with Marshall Carder, officiating, assisted by David Sutton.

Interment will be in Fort Ashby Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded by Ft. Cumberland Post #13 Honor Guard.

Serving as pallbearers will be Troy Hiett, Jason Hiett, Jacob Hiett, Cole Hiett, Noah Hiett, Damon Hiett, and Jeff Kirk.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation for Transplant Camp, Central Plant, Floor 3, 4401 Penn Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15224.
