Freddie Wayne Vess, 74, of Wiley Ford, died Monday, March 19, 2018 at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center.
Born February 25, 1944 in Alleghany County, VA, he was the son of the late Lee Roy Vess, Sr. and Mable Frances (Conner) Vess.
He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Lee Roy Vess, Jr., Claude Vess, and Clovis Vess; and, two sisters, Rosalee Miller and Shirley Saville.
Freddie had served in the Army National Guard for six years.
He retired from CSX with 37 years of service, having been a sheet metal worker.
A member of Central Advent Christian Church, Clifton Forge, Freddie and his family attended Graceland Baptist Church in Short Gap.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing. An avid golfer, Freddie was a member of the local Grasshoppers. Most of all, he loved to spend time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 56 years, Brenda; three daughters, Tammy (Vess) Hodgen and husband John, Ann Marie (Vess) Deisher and husband Ramon, and Kristine Vess-Golden and husband Larry; one sister, Glenda Nicely; five grandchildren, Zachery Hodgen and wife Taylor, Seth Hodgen and wife Rianna, Joshua Hodgen, Ethan Deisher and Emily Deisher; one great, granddaughter Adalynn Grace; numerous nieces and nephews; and, several special, faithful friends.
Friends will be received at Graceland Baptist Church on Thursday from 6-8 PM.
Visitation will also be held at Nicely Funeral Home, 405 Alleghany St., Clifton Forge, VA, on Friday from 6-8 PM.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday at 11 AM in the Nicely Funeral Home, with Pastor John Hogden, officiating.
Interment will be in the Central Advent Christian Church Cemetery.
