Obituary for George Walter Davis, Jr.

George W. Davis, Jr., 77, of Cumberland, died January 10, 2018 at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center.

Born March 6, 1940 in Coketon, WV, he was the son of the late George W. Davis, Sr. and Olive Cloe Davis.

He was also preceded in death by a son, Joseph Davis; his brothers, Jack D. Davis, Richard J. Davis, Arlie “Tommy” Davis and his twin Joseph W. Davis; one sister, Gail E. Grogg and husband William; grandchildren, Brandy and Joe; and, a great granddaughter, Anastasia.

Mr. Davis had worked for the Celanese Corporation.

He had belonged to Rawlings United Methodist Church and was a 50 year member of the Cresaptown Eagles, Aerie #2883. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and spending time with his favorite buddy, Matthew.

Survivors include his wife, Carol; children, Rose Davidson, George W. Davis, III, and Virginia Golden; step-children, Alicia Upole, Brian Upole, and Shelly Davis; sisters, Jessie Johnson, Daisy M. Loar and husband William, and Alma Kendall and husband Jerry; a sister-in-law, Susan Davis; and, several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., Cumberland, on Monday from 2-4 PM. The funeral service will follow at 4 PM, with Rev. Merle Correll, officiating.

Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Thomas, WV, Tuesday at 1 PM.
