Obituary for Harriet Sue Lewis

Fort Ashby, WV-

Harriet Sue (Pyles) Lewis, 68, of Fort Ashby, died May 5, 2018 at The Johns Hopkins University Hospital.

Born December 9, 1949 in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Lee J. Pyles and Ada “Dolly” C. (Long) Pyles.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Stephen T. Lewis; a son-in-law, Rodney Bowers; and, a brother-in-law, James Watson.

Harriet was a 1967 graduate of Fort Ashby High School. She graduated from Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1971.

Harriet began her work as a registered nurse at Hampshire Memorial Hospital. She then worked at Memorial Hospital and retired from Winchester Memorial Hospital.

Harriet was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, where she belonged to the United Methodist Women. Her heart was devoted to 4-H, having served as a leader with the Goal Seekers Club for 30 years. She was a 4-H All Star Member and belonged to the Mineral County Leaders’ Association. Harriet was also an honorary member of Mineral County FFA.

Survivors include her three children, Isaac Lewis and fiancée Amanda Klavuhn, Rebecca Royal and husband Jeff, and Sarah Beth Royal; her grandsons, Wyatt Stephen Royal and Grandin Taylor Lewis; her sister Rita Daugherty and husband James; brother-in-law Gary Lewis and Dottie Magelitz; special “extended family,” Marissa Lewis, Joey Royal, Blake and Brooklyn, Kathy Walizer, Pam Ickes, “Wayne” Thomas, and Dawn Heavener; and, her furry friend Buttons.

Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, Inc, Route 28, Fort Ashby, on Wednesday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM.

The funeral service will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church on Thursday at 11 AM, with Rev. Sara Lamb, officiating.

Interment will be in Fort Ashby Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be Ronnie Watson, Joey Royal, Eric Iser, Paul Clem, Doug Rinard, Howard Page, Robert “Nub” Haslacker, and Hagan Largent. Honorary pallbearers will be Tom Custer, Dennis Largent, Jr., and Larry Fazzalore.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Mineral County 4-H/FFA Livestock Association, c/o WVU Extension Office, 541 Harley O. Staggers Drive, Keyser, WV 26726.
