Obituary for Leo P. Hollern

Leo P. Hollern passed away on April 4, 2018 at The Dawnview Center, where he had been a resident since 2016.

Born January 23, 1938, Leo was the son of the late John Martin Hollern and Esther Marie (Rooney) Hollern.

He was also preceded in death by sisters, Elizabeth Ann Hollern, Esther Tabone, Mary Lou Mitter, and Bernice Atkinson; a brother, Jack Hollern; sisters-in-law, Doris Hollern, Carol Hollern, Viola Drew, and Martha Mitchell; and, brothers-in-law, Stephen Tabone, Whiz Coleman, Bob Mitter, Edward Atkinson, Dennis Perrin, Alfred Drew, and Junior Matthews.

Leo attended St. Joseph’s School in Midland and was a graduate of Beall High School, Frostburg.

Leo served in the Army Reserves.

He was employed at Kelly Springfield Tire Company (29 years) and Abex (15 years).

He attended Annunciation of Our Lord Catholic Church and belonged to the Short Gap Lions Club.

Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Patricia (Matthews) Hollern; a daughter, Pam Foote and husband Jamie; his beloved grandchildren Zachary Buskirk and fiancé Ericka Cassidy, Chelsea Buskirk, Melanie Ullery and Nathan, Chelsea Bosley and Ricky; great grandchildren Karra Ullery and Raiden Ullery; sisters, Judy Poland and husband Jim, Elaine Perrin, and Jean Coleman; a brother, Paul Hollern; sister-in-law Norma Matthews, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Leo was a hard working man who never met a stranger. He loved his family dearly. Leo will be missed by so many!

Vistation at the Upchurch Funeral Home, Inc., Route 28, Fort Ashby, on Sunday from 7-9 PM.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Annunciation of Our Lord Catholic Church on Monday at 11 AM, with Fr. Michael Lecias, celebrant.

Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
