Obituary for Nelson S. Long

Fort Ashby, WV

Nelson S. Long, of Fort Ashby, died Saturday, May 12, 2018 at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center.

Born April 8, 1939 in Patterson Creek, he was the son of the late Earl Jackson Long and Lola (Secrist) Long.

He was also preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ellen (Snyder) Long, and a great granddaughter, Nevaeh.

Nelson was a graduate of Fort Ashby High School, Class of 1957.

He was retired from Kelly-Springfield Tire Company.

Mr. Long belonged to Trinity United Methodist Church. He had served with the Fort Ashby Volunteer Fire Department and was made an honorary member.

Survivors include his three children, Pamela Park and husband Doug, Hurricane, WV, Jeffery Long and wife Tracie, Stephenson, VA, and Gregory Long and wife LuAnn, Fort Ashby; grandchildren, Brandon, Brittany, Bryanna and Brayden Park; Lauren Long, Ashlie Glass, Corrie Frantz, Austin Breshears, Dalton Long, Caitlynn Long, Tiffany Long, Kathryn Long, and Joshua Long; great grandchildren, Dakota, Myah, Axl, Shaelynn, Cole, Harper, Farris, and Ryder; three siblings, Dr. E. Victor Long, Pompano Beach, FL, Bernard Long, New York, NY, and Elizabeth “Betty” Young, Hagerstown; and, his mother-in-law, Anna Twigg, Fort Ashby.

Friends will be received at t he Upchurch Funeral Home, Inc., Fort Ashby, on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM.

The Fort Ashby Volunteer Fire Department will conduct a memorial service in the funeral home on Thursday at 7:30 PM.

The funeral service will be held on Friday at 11 AM in Trinity United Methodist Church, with Rev. Sara Lamb, officiating. The family will receive friends from 10-11 AM.

Interment will be in Fort Ashby Cemetery.
