Cresaptown, MD

Robert M. “Peanuts” “Pappy” Evans, 101, of Cresaptown, died Sunday, February 11, 2018 at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center.

Born January 4, 1917 in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Richard and Eva Mae (Shambaugh) Evans.

He was also preceded in death by his wives, Mary Virginia Evans, Catherine Evans, and Leona Evans; a sister, Emma Mae Evans; two sons-in-law, Gary Knight and Paul Savage; and, two grandchildren, Marie Savage and Kenneth Lowery.

Mr. Evans proudly served in the U.S. Army during WWII.

He retired from Kelly-Springfield Tire Company, where he was affectionately known as “Peanuts.”

Mr. Evans had been a member of Emmanuel Episcopal. In recent years, he attended Pinto Mennonite Church. He was a life member of Henry Hart Post #1411, V.F.W. and Fort Cumberland Post #13, American Legion.

Survivors include his daughters, Mary Ann Knight and Emma Marie Savage; grandchildren, Glenn, Robert, Elmer, Carl, Melissa, Stephanie, Regina, Sabrina, Roger, Kevin, Donald, Joey, Charlie, and Ryan; and several great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., 202 Greene Street, Cumberland, on Wednesday from 5-8 PM and Thursday noon until 1 PM. The funeral service will follow at 1 PM, with Pastor Duane Frederick, officiating.

Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens, where military honors will be accorded by Fort Cumberland Post #13 Veterans Honor Guard.
