Obituary for William "Bill" Hunter

William “Bill” Edward Hunter, 85, of Cumberland, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2018 at The Lions Center, surrounded by his family.

Born July 22, 1932 in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Edward and Frances (Bone) Hunter.

He was also preceded in death by his sister, Waneta Yoder.

Bill retired from Walter N. Yoder & Sons in 1994. He had been a sheet metal department manager and mechanical estimator. He had belonged to the Sheet Metal Workers International Association, Local #100 since 1953.

Bill supported activities with Friends Aware and belonged to AARP.

He was the “fix it” man among his family and friends. He could tackle anything that needed to be built or repaired.

Survivors include his beloved wife, Patricia Ann (Cosgrove) Hunter; four daughters, Debbie Merritt and husband Richard, Ridgeley, WV, Diane Hendrickson and husband Paul, Cumberland, Beverly McWhirter and husband Patrick, Ridgeley, WV, and Sharon Hunter, Cumberland. His grandchildren and great grandchildren brought him great joy! He has four grandchildren, Tanya Meade, Curt Hauser, Mitchell McWhirter and girlfriend Renee Tipton, and Alison Humphrey and husband Chris; and, two great grandchildren, Adaline and Grant Humphrey.

Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., 202 Greene Street, Cumberland, on Monday, April 16th. from noon until 1 PM.

The funeral service will follow at 1 PM in the funeral home.

Entombment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions may be made to Friends Aware, 1601 Holland Street, Cumberland, MD 21502.

The family would like to thank The Lions Center staff for the kind, compassionate care provided to our husband, father, and grandfather.
